Should teachers carry guns?

October 25, 2006

In  Second Opinion, people posted their own opinion about the question:

Should teacher carry guns?

The problem appeared after the school shootings in Wisconsin, Colorado and Pennsylvania during the month of October. To take mesures against that, a state legistator said that he planed to introduce a legislation that would allow teachers, principals, administrators and other school personnel to carry concealed weapons.

Some people think that this is not a good idea because the responsability is enormous. How could we know whether we could trust teacher, principals and etc because like that they couls pull a gun any time and start to shoot students and hurt people.. other wise this could influence kids, because they are not supposed to have any contact with this during their childhood.

Others said that it might be a solution in big cities where it’s more difficult to search all the staff, students, visitors ant etc… But obviously in this case, everyone should take a gun safety course and have a background check. In addition to this if people know that teachers carry weapons maybe they won’t risk themselves to try to hurt anybody.

I personnaly think that there are many other ways to combat these problems. Guns, weapons, violence just creates more violence. If people cannot think properly and conciously, maybe the security could be reforced. To check everyone that gets in the school, not to allow any kind of harmful object like in airports or something like that.. Well that my point of vision.. but if the legislation accept that, they really would have to be carefull and study what could be the consequences…
